The Women of Virtue Empowerment Network (WOVEN) has been accepted as a finalist in the Pepsi Refresh Project. Each month Pepsi gives $1,000,000 to fund community projects in communities across the country. WOVEN is in the running for a $25,000.00 grant to fund their women's free support center. Measure J Benefits To IVC Are Outlined
What is Measure “J”? On November 2, 2010, voters in the Imperial Community College District will be asked to approve a bond measure that would generate $80 million for career and public safety training facilities and continued modernization of the 50-year-old IVC Campus. This money would stay in the Imperial Valley and only be used to improve local college facilities. How much would Measure “J” cost? Measure “J” does not increase tax rates. Ouch! The Bed Bugs Are Biting In Imperial Valley
By Luke Phillips A nation-wide epidemic of Bed Bugs, a small insect that feeds off the blood of humans as they sleep, has made it's way to the Imperial Valley. Paul Johnson, an entomologist with the Imperial County Health Department, says that the Bed Bug problem has become fairly widespread in El Centro and Brawley with infestations being reported in every kind of residential dwelling, from hotels to houses and apartments. Girls Softball Tournament for Scoliosis Awareness
By Mario Conde This past Friday there was a one day Girls softball tournament for Scoliosis awareness and raised money for a very talented softball player from Calexico. Two games were played in Calexico last Friday at Nosotros Park and American Legion Field to provide awareness about scoliosis. The winners of those games would meet in the water park field to decide who would be the champion of the night. The tournament finalized after midnight. Under the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act (H.R. 1586), which was signed by President Obama on August 10, 2010, California will receive approximately $1.2 billion to be used to save or create an estimated 16,500 K–12 jobs.
