Another Brawley Building Goes Up In Flames.

By Chris Furguson

The abandoned building hosting Brawley’s Top Hat Cocktail Bar was set ablaze during the late evening hours of Thursday, October 4, 2012. The fire was reported at around 10:30 pm and was contained by 2:00 am the following morning, according to city officials. Four other crews, including Imperial County, El Centro, Calipatria and Westmorland, answered the mutual aid call. The building was once a group home for farm laborers in the 1950s. It was also the former location for Mona’s Restaurant. The building had been abandoned and boarded up a few months ago and no one was believed to have been occupying the location. More to come in next week’s Weekly-Chronicle.
