The 2012 election season is officially underway as candidates filed their intention to run for office this fall.
The Calexico City Council race was moved to November and seven familiar political people decided to throw their hats into the race. Incumbents John Moreno, Daniel Romero, and Luis Castro will compete for a second term in office against Eric Ortega, Guillermo Hermosillo, Joong Kim, and David Ouzan.
For Calexico School Board, Trustees Gloria Romo and Tony Valenzuela will go for re-election against Benjamin Horton Sr., Letty Zuno-Vizcarra, Vincent Cuevas, Anette Buttner, Ciro Calderon, and Mazen Alazhari.
For Heffernan Healthcare District, incumbents Rosie Fernandez, Gloria Grijalva, and Maria Camacho will be challenged by Daniel Chairez and Joaquin “Jack” Tapia.
None of the Imperial Valle College Board of Trustees was challenged in this election. That means that Louie Wong, Rudy Cardenas, Jerry Hart, and Romualdo Medina will be there for another four years. Calexico School Board Trustee Gloria Romo entertained the idea of challenging Wong for the Calexico IVC District seat but ended up deciding running for Calexico School Board again.
Running to fill the two year vacant seat left by Former IID Director Anthony Sanchez will be Norma Sierra-Galindo, Pompeyo Tavares, James Horn, Rudy Maldonado, Eduardo Valdez-Belmonte, and former County Supervisor Wally Leimgruber.
For Holtville City Council, incumbents Jerry Brittsan, Collen Ludwig, and David Bradshaw will be challenged by Jim Predmore and Ginger Ward.
Voters will also choose a new Congressman for the 51st Congressional District having State Senator Juan Vargas and Michael Crimmins running for that seat.
