The California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta has announced the theme for the 2013 fair, which will run March 1 to 10, 2013: “Experience the Magic”

“The 2013 fair will be highlighting the magic of the fair and its heritage through the years as an event that has become a significant experience in the lives of Valley residents,”  said  fair Chief Executive Officer Theresa Garcia.

“Thanks to the support of the Valley, the 2012 fair attracted record attendance” Garcia said, adding that she hopes to build upon those successes for next year’s event. “Our Board and staff want to thank our sponsors and the community for excellent support of all of our activities this year,”

One early addition to next year’s fair will be “Barnyard Babies,” which is designed to enhance agricultural education for fair goers.  It will consist of an area that will contain various baby farm animals. “We will be creating a looking zoo that allows people to experience the magic of newborn animals with their mother.  The exhibit will display educational material about the animals as well.” Garcia said.

Meanwhile the leadership is in place for the 2013 Fair. Dick Fragale has been elected fair board president for the 2012-2013 year, Jason Jackson will be vice president and Lee Hindman will continue as treasurer.

Fragale is a retired school administrator who last year came out of retirement to serve as superintendent of the Calexico Unified School District.

Jackson is general manager of Desert Security Services and is a member of the El Centro City Council.

Other board members are Past Presidents Bo Shropshire, Cherisse Alford, Darrel Bostic,  Richard Acosta and Joe Montenegro. Also serving on the board is James Hamilton.

Each member of the California Mid-Winter Fair Board of Directors is appointed by the governor of the State of California. The board is responsible for the operation of the 45th District Agricultural Association, the organization that administers the Imperial Valley Expo and the California Mid-Winter Fair.
