Former Brawley resident Arthur Miramontes will be discussing and autographing copies of his newest children’s book “The Young Knight and the Golden Sword” next weekend at the Hacienda Burger Bar next Wednesday, March 7.
The signing and discussion will be from 11 am until 4 pm.
“I’m really exicted to be coming back to Brawley,” said Miramontes.  “To be able to come back to the Valley and maybe inspire others is important.”
The book concerns a fantasy adventure between a young knight, a princess and a dragon.
“This book is geared towards first through sixth graders,” said Miramontes.  “It’s a story of good vs evil and about friendship, trust and loyalty.”
Arthur Miramontes, along with his wife Wilma and son Arturo, write and illustrate their books.
Arturo Miramontes is a graduate student at San Jose University majoring in animation while minoring in music.
The Miramontes clan also has two other books available for sale on their website.  One book is called “There’s An Elephant In The Bathtub” while the other, a collection of Spanish language short stories, is entitled “Carrousel de Fantasia.”
The main goal of the signing is to enourage local businesses and organizations to purchase books to donate to area schools.  “We’re expecting quite a few people,” added Miramontes.
A similar event last year, also held at Hacienda Burger Bar, brought more than 100 people able to purchase and donate books for area schools.
For Miramontes, it’s also a return to the neighborhood he grew up in.
“I lived down the street from Hidalgo [Elementary],” explained Miramontes.
Miramontes also praised Hacienda Catering for hosting the event.
“My family goes a long way with Hacienda,” added Miramontes.  “They [Hacienda] raise money for local scholarships, which we support.”
Miramontes is the brother of  Imperial County Undersheriff Fred Miramontes.  Both Fred and Sheriff Ray Loera will be making a presentation of books to be donated to area school libraries.
“Our family is big on giving back,” said Miramontes.  “We believe we owe something to the community.”
Additionally, Miramontes will be signing books during the 2012 California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta at the Crime Prevention Booth.  That signing will be from 1 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, March 4
Hacienda Catering is located at 941 K Street in Brawley.
