Lillian Vera of Imperial County Behavioral Health Services has earned her license as a clinical social worker, agency Director Michael Horn has announced.

Vera, who has been with Behavioral Health for 11 years, is a clinician for children, adolescents and their families. She grew up in Mexicali but attended schools in Imperial Valley and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from San Diego State University, Imperial Valley Campus, in Calexico. She later earned a master’s degree in social work at the university.

Vera specializes in trauma therapy for children and also works in the multi-dimensional-treatment foster care program that seeks to re-unite children in foster care with their family, when possible, or in permanent placement.

“I always felt this is what I wanted to do – a helping profession,” Vera explained of her career path. “The trauma children face may be from being abused or witnessing abuse. We’re able to help them move on without anxiety or fearfulness.”

To earn the clinical social work license she had to serve 3200 hours of clinical work following graduation and pass two examinations.

Vera is married with two children.
