CBP U.S. Border Patrol Seizes $3.5 Million Drug Load at I-8 Checkpoint

Pine Valley, Calif. — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Interstate 8 checkpoint near Pine Valley arrested a 25-year-old male, U.S. citizen, for attempting to smuggle more than 315 pounds of cocaine and 570 pounds of marijuana hidden in a tractor-trailer.

Yuma Sector Border Patrol Seizes 360 Pounds of Marijuana

Wellton, Arizona – On June 5, Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents seized approximately 360 pounds of marijuana that was abandoned in the desert.

Agents assigned to Wellton Station were patrolling east of Camp Grip near Davidson Canyon when they discovered eight bundles of marijuana abandoned in the desert. The bundles contained a total of 16 plastic-wrapped packages. The narcotics, with an estimated street value of $180,000, were seized and transported to Yuma Sector Headquarters.

Vietnam War Hero Visits the Imperial Valley

There was a men’s banquet held at the First Southern Baptist Church in Imperial this past Saturday. The banquet was put together by the church and Pastor Jeff Moody.A delicious dinner was served that included what the pastor (who is from Tennessee) described as chicken fried chicken and taters with Tennessee sweet tea. Pastor Moody told everybody that they were in for a treat with the motivational speaker Dave Roever.  He spoke of what an inspiration Mr. Roever would be to all in attendance. Pastor Moody had been trying to get Dave Roever to the Imperial Valley for over four years and his persistence paid off.

Going into this season, major league observers were wondering if Jose Bautista could duplicate his remarkable 2010 performance, when he led the big leagues with 54 home runs.

 

Bautista made a splash last season, coming out of nowhere to establish himself as one of the most feared sluggers in the game. That after being branded as a utility player with not much of a future left.

Proceeds to Benefit Border Patrol Families

Yuma, AZ—
The Yuma Scorpions held a silent auction during Monday Nights game, the coveted item was a signed Jose Canseco jersey. All the proceeds from the silent auction went to the Clark and Rojas families to help cover any expenses they have incurred in the past few weeks.
Edward Rojas Jr. and Hector Clark were members of the United States Border Patrol who recently lost their lives pursuing suspected smugglers.
A “Memorial Fun Run and Walk” will be held to raise funds for the families, as well. This event will take place Saturday, June 11 at 6:30am. For more information on how you can help or about the Fun Run, contact Rafael Chacon at 928.920.3127.
