Imperial County Behavioral Health Services psychiatrist Bushra Ahmad has been named its medical director effective May 1.
In announcing the promotion agency Director Michael Horn stated, “Dr. Ahmad is representative of the advantages of our efforts to retain talented professionals and promote from within. Her experience in our community is invaluable to serving the needs of our clients.”
Ahmad succeeds Alvaro Camacho who Horn stated did “exemplary work” in holding the position since July 2007. Camacho left to concentrate more on his private practice.
Ahmad now oversees physicians and nurses, coordinates staff recruitment and hiring, is the liaison between the medical staff and administration and enhances and develops programs to improve client care.
“I now have the opportunity to represent our staff at the administrative level as well as doing more to serve our clients,” she said.
On the Behavioral Health staff since 2004, Ahmad is board certified in psychiatry and addiction medicine. In addition to her administrative duties she also continues her psychiatric work serving adult clients in the agency’s Drug and Alcohol Programs and Mental Health Services Recovery Group
Ahmad immigrated to the United States from Pakistan in 1992. She received a medical degree in Pakistan and upon arriving in the U.S. completed a residency at Martin Luther King, Jr. hospital in Los Angeles. She resides in Imperial County with her husband and two children
