The 5th Annual John Kirchenbauer Memorial Golf Tournament took place this past Saturday at the Del-Rio Country Club in Brawley. The tournament was originally scheduled for last November but was postponed due to the uncertainty of the Barbara Worth Country Club, as it is still going through escrow.
So it was off to Brawley where the Del-Rio Country Club opened its arms to the Holtville Hall of Fame. It turned out to be the biggest tournament to date with over 100 entries, a nice sunny day and enough wind to make the course even more challenging. The Tournament had a hole in one prize at every par three including golf clubs, cars and even a chance for a shot to win $1 MILLION.
The golf course was in exhalent condition. The gas powered golf carts were all ready to go. It was a shotgun start best ball tournament divided into two flights.
The $1 Million shot was giving to the person who got closest to the hole during the tournament, than was giving one shot to make it in the hole to win $1 million. It was the No. 10 hole a 185 yard par three playing straight into the wind making it even more challenging, as many of the players were pulling out their drivers to try to make the distance. Rudy Yniguez was the player that got that chance. His shot was long enough but just off to the left.
Matt Havens, Felipe Aragon, Felipe Aragon Jr. and Danny Gonzales took home the first-flight win.
Rafael Herrera, Manuel Lara, Guillermo Molina and Robert Melgargo won the second flight.
The Holtville High School Hall of Fame Committee was extremely pleased with the turn out and would like to send out a Thank You to all of the volunteers and sponsors for this year’s event.
