A DEEP AND COLD LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BE PLUNGING INTO THE DESERT SOUTHWEST PUSHING ARCTIC AIR THROUGH THE REGION BEGINNING THIS AFTERNOON. THIS WILL LIKELY APPROACH TEMPERATURE RECORDS FOR BOTH OVERNIGHT AND DAYTIME PERIODS FOR THE NEXT 48 HOURS FOR A NUMBER OF LOCATIONS IN OUR FORECAST AREA. FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TONIGHT FOR PORTIONS OF THE EAST VALLEY… NORTHWEST PINAL COUNTY AND GILA COUNTY. FREEZING WILL BE MORE WIDESPREAD THURSDAY MORNING WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 20S ACROSS MOST OF THE LOWER DESERTS AND SOME AREAS SUCH AS THE EAST VALLEY AS LOW AS 19 DEGREES.

THE COLD TEMPERATURES… IN COMBINATION WITH BREEZY NORTH WINDS… WILL BRING UNUSUALLY COLD WIND CHILLS TO THE REGION… WITH VALUES IN THE LOW 20S TONIGHT AND UPPER TEENS WEDNESDAY NIGHT ACROSS MOST LOCATIONS.

FOR PHOENIX SKY HARBOR… THE RECORD LOW FOR FEBRUARY 2ND IS 29 DEGREES AND FOR FEB 3RD IT IS 28 DEGREES. THE LOWEST HIGH EVER RECORDED FOR FEB 3RD IS 49 DEGREES. THE LAST TIME SKY HARBOR HAD A TEMPERATURE BELOW 30 DEGREES WAS ON JANUARY 15TH 2007 AND BELOW 29 DEGREES IT WAS ALL THE WAY BACK ON DECEMBER 23RD 1990 WHEN IT REACHED 26 DEGREES. THE CURRENT TEMPERATURE FORECAST FOR SKY HARBOR IS 35 DEGREES TONIGHT… A CHILLY 49 FOR A HIGH WEDNESDAY… AND 30 DEGREES THURSDAY MORNING.
