Valley’s Youth will have an opportunity to meet and to learn valuable tips from some of the best Professional Soccer Players in the sport in Calexico this weekend. The Calexico Parent’s Athletic League youth will be hosting a Soccer Clinic for its youth this Saturday and Sunday.
Carmen Estrada Athletic Director and Soccer Clinic Coordinator commented “We are expecting between 150-200 children participating in the Soccer Clinic. There will be 3 Professional Soccer players including Juan Hernandez with Club America, that will be in Calexico giving back to these kids. It’s a great opportunity for our youth to interact with Professionals players that they only see on T.V.”
The community is invited to watch these Professional Players teach young soccer players from more than 36 teams involved with over 720 kids. There is expected to be Scouts from some of the Mexican National League teams as well. The entrance cost is a $5 donation to the CPAL-Soccer program for Parent’s or adults. No entrance fee for children or youth under 18.
Time: Saturday Feb. 26 & Sunday Feb. 27, 2011
Time: 9am-12pm
Location: Calexico High School Football Field
Entrance Fee: $5 donation per Adult
Students 18 and under NO cost
After the Soccer Clinic there will be 30 minute games between different teams ages 10-18 to allow the Professional Scouts to view the local talent and perhaps recruit for future or minor teams. The community is invited to attend and spend a good time and support a great cause.
The Police Activities League has traditionally relied on parents, donations and the support of the community to run its programs. Typically Recreational Programs run by cities have a fee to enroll and participate, this fee is higher than what most families can afford given the Valley’s demographics. CPAL provides a venue for those that can’t pay the fee because they have the ability to fund raise to offset the costs.
Former Calexico Mayor Louis Fuentes and CPAL Board member said, “This is the first Soccer Clinic in a series of events that we hope to have for our city’s youth. We are extremely grateful for the Professional Players that are taking the time to inspire and coach our kids. It’s going to be a great time.”
Calexico Parents Athletic League is a non-profit 501(c) 6 organization whose sole purpose is to keep children active in recreational sports. Your donation may be tax deductible. Please consult your tax advisor.
