FRESH CILANTRO RECALLED DUE TO CONCERNS OVER POTENTIAL SALMONELLA CONTAMINATION

Dr. Mark Horton, director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), today announced that Sabor Farms was recalling fresh cilantro that was packed under four different brand names, because the cilantro may be contaminated with http://www.cdph.ca.gov/HealthInfo/discond/Pages/Salmonellosis.aspx. To date, no illnesses have been reported.
The recall by Sabor Farms includes cilantro that was available at retail locations in California from January 14 through 28. The cilantro was sold in bunches containing twist-ties under the brand names, Tanimura & Antle, Ocean Mist, Nature’s Reward and Queen Victoria.

2011 Fair Entertainment

Grandstands musical entertainment will come in all forms and styles during the 2011 California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta March 4 to 13.

For Metal fans, there will be Damage, Inc.-a Tribute to Metallica that will take the grandstand stage on the opening night, March 4. Right behind them on March 5 will be Skynnyn Lynnyyrd-a Tribute to Lynyrd Skynrd.

Calexico State of the City

Calexico Mayor John Moreno gave his State of the City address last Thursday highlighting the challenges and the upcoming development projects in Calexico.

Mayor Moreno said in his speech that even when the city is in a big fiscal crisis, City staff has work diligently to continue with its services. Moreno said the Calexico is a resilient and will overcome these challenge. Moreno highlighted the accomplishments of each department during this fiscal year.

The Holtville Athletic Club Conducts Another Successful Rib Cook-Off.

The aroma of BBQ filled the City of Holtville again as the Holtville Athletic conducted their 20th Annual Rib Cook-Off Extravaganza on Saturday January 29th. This year the club brought in bands for entertainment that played through the day, they also added a competition area for the youngsters, letting them test their skills with sling shots. They had the old fashioned Ice Cream machine going all day long as well as the Kettle Corn and 12,000 pounds of ribs that were consumed in a matter of hours. It was another great turn out to support the young athletes of Holtville.
