U.S. Border Patrol agents seized several bundles of methamphetamine Tuesday at the Interstate 8 checkpoint east of Yuma.

At about 2:30 p.m., Border Patrol agents assigned to the Wellton station referred a green Ford F-150 hauling a white Saturn sedan for secondary inspection after a Border Patrol canine team alerted to the truck.

In secondary, agents discovered a hidden compartment behind the rear seat that contained nine foil-wrapped packages of methamphetamine. Agents also discovered an additional six bundles of methamphetamine hidden inside the passenger door panel.

Border Patrol agents seized a total of 15 bundles of methamphetamine with a combined weight of 29 pounds. The methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $696,000, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the driver. Both vehicles were seized by the Border Patrol.
