Giant Checks Totaling More Than $1 Million to be Delivered to Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo at Opening

El Centro, CA – Congressman Bob Filner will deliver two giant checks to the Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo at a celebration of the opening of their El Centro Women’s Health Care Center.  The Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo will receive $400,000 for their Brawley Clinic.  The organization will also receive $773,219, which was awarded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

SAN DIEGO, October 28, 2010 – The San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross is responding to a fatal shootout at an apartment in the Skyline Area of southeast San Diego. The local Red Cross has assisted approximately 100 people including first responders and evacuated residents and will continue to provide services as long as they are needed.

The Red Cross has opened canteen services and is providing food, hydration, clothing, blankets, teddy bears, mental health services and shelter as needed.

El Centro Border Patrol Sector and the City of El Centro Host Haunted House

EL CENTRO, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol and the El Centro Parks and Recreation Department will host the annual Haunted House on Oct. 29 and 30, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the El Centro Community Center located at 375 South First Street.

The community is invited to come to a safe, fun and family-friendly Halloween event.  Admission is $1 or a non-perishable canned food item in support of the Imperial Valley Food Bank.

CBP Officers Seize Truck With Marijuana-Filled Tires

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa cargo facility seized 269 pounds of marijuana hidden in the tires of a tractor pulling a trailer.

A service canine alerted officers to the presence of the marijuana.

Monday a CBP officer referred the 1976 Kenworth tractor and trailer for an intensive examination.

Head of Mexican Drug Trafficking Family Sentenced to 23 Year in Prison

United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner and Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge Anthony D. Williams, announced today that Miguel Ruiz-Bravo, 39, of Apatzingan, Mexico, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Morrison C. England Jr. to 23 years and four months in prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine. Ruiz-Bravo pleaded guilty on June 24, 2010.
