California State Assemblyman V. Mauel Perez wants to hear from you.
After a successful launch in Calipatria last year, Perez is expanding his Mobile Offices to Westmorland and Holtville.
Rebecca Terrazas-Baxter, a field representative for Perez, says that the mobile offices are a way for people outside of El Centro, where Perez has his permanent offices, to take advantages of services offered by the Assemblyman.
“We want people to know that this is not just for residents of El Centro,” Baxter said. “We’re available to anybody in Imperial County. We want to be more accessible and reach out to the community and let people know they’re not being ignored.”
Representatives from Perez’s office will set up at Meyer Memorial Library in Holtville every 3rd Thursday of the month from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and every first Thursday of the month at the Westmorland City Council Chambers.
The mobile offices will offer a variety of services including consumer complaints, veteran’s affairs, state budget information, information on legislation, and help with a variety of government programs including housing assistance, low-cost prescriptions and low-cost auto insurance.
“Sometimes people have hold ups with certain agencies like the DMV or EED,” said Baxter. “We can help clear up miscommunications, or clarify what the issue is to the constituents.”
The office can also help act as a liason when residents have problems with state government agencies.
Baxter says the program went well in Calipatria, with residents taking advantage of the programs, or just stopping by to vent on certain issues. She says after the program had been running for a year, things started to die down and they decided to move on to another community.
“It began to die down in the end as people became more comfortable and familiar with us,” she said. “So we thought it was time to move on and introduce ourselves to other communities.”
The program will begin on August 5 in Westmorland and on the 19th in Holtville and will run for six months.
