… WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 AM PDT WEDNESDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PHOENIX HAS ISSUED A WIND ADVISORY… WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 AM PDT WEDNESDAY.

* AFFECTED AREA: SOUTHEAST CALIFORNIA INCLUDING THE IMPERIAL VALLEY AND JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK.

* TIMING: WINDS WILL QUICKLY INCREASE LATE THIS AFTERNOON/EARLY THIS EVENING AND REMAIN ELEVATED THROUGH MOST OF THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.

* WINDS: FROM THE WEST AT 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH.

* IMPACTS: DIFFICULT TRAVEL ON NORTH-SOUTH ORIENTED ROADWAYS… BRIEF VISIBILITY REDUCTION TO ONE MILE OR LESS DUE TO BLOWING SAND AND DUST… UNSECURED HIGH PROFILE LIGHT-WEIGHT OBJECTS BECOMING DISPLACED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF BETWEEN 30 AND 40 MPH ARE EXPECTED… OR WIND GUSTS OF BETWEEN 40 AND 58 MPH. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT… ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. IN ADDITION… STRONG WINDS OVER DESERT AREAS COULD RESULT IN BRIEFLY LOWERED VISIBILITIES TO WELL UNDER A MILE AT TIMES IN BLOWING DUST OR BLOWING SAND. USE EXTRA CAUTION.
