SAN DIEGO, April 20, 2010– The American Red Cross San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter invites you to the 2010 Real Heroes Breakfast on September 30, 2010 aboard the USS Midway Museum from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Each year over 800 community and business leaders from San Diego and the Imperial Counties join the American Red Cross in honoring local heroes. The Real Heroes Breakfast is a collective effort to recognize, thank and honor ten local heroes for their service to humanity and to our community. It is an opportunity to celebrate those who have exhibited extraordinary courage, selflessness and human compassion.
The Red Cross has been honored to celebrate amazing heroes in the past. The 2009 Hero Award in the Adult category went to Silvia Torres for performing infant CPR to save the life of her neighbor’s baby. In addition, the 2009 Real Hero Award in the Medical category recognized Robbie Epperson, an acoustic ceiling foreman in La Mesa for acting calmly and gracefully under pressure when he noticed his coworker lying on the floor unconscious. Mr. Epperson administered CPR until paramedics arrived. His actions saved the life of his co-worker that day. The American Red Cross San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter would like you to join us in celebrating more heroes like Ms. Torres and Mr. Epperson.
This year the local American Red Cross will honor heroic deeds in ten categories: Adult, Animal, Company, Fire and Rescue, Law Enforcement, Media, Medical, Military, Youth and the Wendell Cutting Humanitarian Award.
Proceeds from the 2010 Real Heroes Breakfast will be directed to the San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross and will provide vital services to our local communities.

About the American Red Cross, San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter
The American Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on the generosity of the American people to provide our programs and services. The San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter is leading the effort to make San Diego and Imperial Counties “America’s most prepared communities.” With the public’s ongoing support we provide life saving preparedness training; disaster relief services; 24-hour emergency services to deployed military personnel and their families; and nutritional counseling through our Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.
