Imperial County Officials Open Local Assistance Center for Individuals Who Suffered Damages due to the Baja California/Imperial County Earthquake
IMPERIAL COUNTY- Due to the7.2 earthquake experienced on Sunday April 4, 2010 in Baja California and Imperial County, the Imperial County Office of Emergency Services and local officials announced this morning the availability of a Local Assistance Center (LAC) for residents and businesses of Imperial County who have been impacted by the earthquake and are in need of assistance.
“The Office of Emergency Services has been working closely with local, state and federal agencies to set up the Local Assistance Center to provide valuable information and services to individuals affected by the earthquake; residents and businesses are highly encouraged to visit the LAC if they were in anyway affected by the earthquake,” stated Tony Rouhotas, Director of the Office of Emergency Services (OES).
Agencies that will be present at the LAC will provide information related to city, county, and state assistance available for those affected by the earthquake, applications for rental assistance and information on local housing options, referrals to organizations for assistance with immediate unmet needs, and a variety of other resources available to those affected by the earthquake.
The Local Assistance Center will be open from Thursday, April 22nd to Saturday May 1st, 2010 and will be set up as a “One Stop Shop”. The LAC will be located at Central Baptist Church, 1290 South Imperial Avenue at the corner of Ross and Imperial in El Centro. The LAC will be open Monday –Friday from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm and Saturdays from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and closed on Sundays.
Imperial County agencies that will be present at the LAC will include:
- Imperial County Planning Department
- Imperial County Fire
- Area Agency on Aging
- Workforce Development Office
- Imperial County Sheriff’s Office
- El Centro Community Development
- Imperial Valley Housing Authority
- Imperial County Behavioral Health
- Imperial County Environmental Health
- Imperial County Social Services
- American Red Cross
- Campesinos Unidos
- Salvation Army
The following State agencies will be present:
- California Emergency Management Agency
- California Board of Equalization
- Contractors State Licensing Board
- Department of Insurance
- Department of Motor Vehicles
- Department of Housing and Community Development
- Employment Development Department
The United States Small Business Administration will be on hand at the LAC to issue loan applications, answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process and help each individual complete their application. No appointment is necessary.
In order to meet the transportation needs of individuals who need to access services available at the LAC, IV Transit will be providing transportation to and from the LAC at no charge between the cities of El Centro and Calexico from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on the days that the LAC will be open. The bus will be leaving for El Centro from 3rd and Heber in Calexico.
