Calexico, CA. San Diego State University- Imperial Valley announces the Fifth Annual “Explore SDSU-IV Week” to be held from March 8th through March 12th. The week long festivity is a showcase of the campus’ programs featuring theatre plays, dance performances, art exhibits and film. This year will be ART FEST 2010! The  exciting line-up of performances include dance groups, singers, guitar players, a Beatles Medley Concerto, Cello, violin-Irish fiddle, art exhibits and much more.

The week kicks-off with student activities sponsored by the Associated Student Council on Monday, March 8th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The activities include volleyball, relay race, ultimate frisbee and much more.  Then from 4:00-6:30 p.m. we will have dance and music performances in the Rodney Auditorium.   From 6:30-7:30 p.m., we will hold the “SDSU-IV IDOL” Talent Contest on the Rollie Carrillo Quad which is a search for a talented singer to sing the National Anthem during our Commencement this year.

On Tuesday, March 9th at 5:00 p.m., we will have “The Last Chicano” book signing by author Manuel R. Delgado, a former SDSU-IV staff member.  This event will be held in the Library.  Since Tuesday is designated as the day for the expression of literary arts, there will also be poetry readings, skits, short plays and sonnets to follow on the Rollie Carrillo Quad from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, March 10th from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., we will have “Families Stand Together:  Feeling Secure in Tough Times” film screening hosted by Elmo and Resource Fair.  This family-oriented event promotes literacy awareness and healthy families! The film aims to help families dealing with economic challenges and offers tips to children and parents to better cope with financial changes.  The resource tables will consist of mental health/health services, community recreation programs, non-profit agencies that offer relief services for families affected by economic crisis and much more valuable resources that relate to the film in some way.   The resource tables will also have children’s activities such as face painting, coloring, puppets, etc.  Children and families will enjoy a dance performance, refreshments, snacks, activities, giveaways and a meet and greet with Clifford-The-Big-Red Dog.  Since Wednesday is designated for the art of film, we will also screen short films produced by SDSU-IV students from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Thursday, March 11th is our visual arts day from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and we will showcase photography, abstract art  and painting exhibits by our faculty, staff, students and the Imperial Valley community!

On Friday, March 12th we will have interactive art displays from 3:00-6:00 p.m.   From 5:30-7:30 p.m., we will hold a Spring Recognition Reception in the John Steppling Art Gallery.  This will be our “Explore SDSU-IV Week” culminating event and is to thank donors and supporters of our campus and programs.   RSVP is requested to attend  this event by calling (760)768-5587 or email mcortez@mail.sdsu.edu
