The 2nd Annual Ocotillo Cactus Festival will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 9 am – 2 pm at Ocotillo County Park.
The event was founded in March of 2009 in an effort to bring attention to a small, beautiful and somewhat forgotten community. The Ocotillo desert provides a springtime bloom like none other in the Imperial County. During the festival participants can enjoy contests, food and drink, live music, informational booths and opportunities to win various prizes. Native cactus will be available for purchase as will custom crafts from the local community.
“We want to bring the surrounding communities together to celebrate Spring in the desert through a festival where you can purchase native cacti, enjoy good food and support the local community,” said Suzanne Bitterlich, event coordinator.
The Ocotillo Cactus Festival invites the local community to join in the desert Springtime celebration and participate in the festivities. The proceeds of this year’s festival will be used to start a Scholarship Fund for Imperial Valley High School students, a community emergency fund and to help kick-start the 3rd Annual Ocotillo Cactus Festival.
“We want to grow our little festival into something people will come from miles around to see and experience,” added Bitterlich. “The Ocotillo desert is a gem in the area and we want to share that.”
