Governor Appoints Poli Flores, Jr. As A Superior Court Judge

On Tuesday, December 29, 2009, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Poli Flores, Jr. to the Imperial County Superior Court, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Annie M. Gutierrez. The Judges of the Imperial County Superior Court appointed Mr. Flores to the position of Superior Court Commissioner in October 2006. Since that time, Commissioner Flores has presided over a variety of calendars, including juvenile, family law, criminal, and felony preliminary hearings.
Commissioner Flores is a native of Brawley who grew up in Calexico, graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and received his Juris Doctorate from U.C. Hastings College of Law in San Francisco. He began his legal career at the law firm of Cardenas & Fifield here in El Centro. From 1983-86 he worked as an Imperial County Deputy Public Defender. Since 1986 he managed his own law office, handling all types of cases. Commissioner Flores has been married for 23 years to Mercy, a science resource teacher and they have three children. Commissioner Flores has been active in the community including memberships on several volunteer boards. He is a member of the Imperial Breakfast Rotary and the Calexico Elks.
Presiding Judge Donal B. Donnelly received notification from the Governor’s office and was elated to learn of the appointment. Judge Donnelly stated “Judges and staff are overjoyed with this well deserved appointment. Poli has served us with excellence and we are very proud of his achievements.”
Honorable Flores stated, “On behalf of the Flores and Duron families, I wish to thank the JNE Commission, Sharon Majors-Lewis, and the Governor of California. I am truly honored and humbled by this appointment. I have been an attorney, commissioner, and public servant of this great county for 25 years, and, as a judge, I will continue serving our county with passion, humility, and dedication.”
