On Friday, December 11, the Brawley City Council will hold a special celebration at the Elks Lodge for the mayoral and council changeover.
Outgoing Mayor Steve Vasquez, along with council member John Benson, will be leaving the council.
At the same time, Mayor Pro Tem Ryan Kelley will assume the mantle of Mayor while Don Campbell is expected to take the role of Pro Tem once again.
George Nava will also remain on the council.
At the last election, which was certified by the Registrar of Voters in November, candidates Sam Couchman and Miguel Miranda were elected to replace Benson and Vasquez
Vasquez leaves the council having served nearly 20 y ears. Vasquez hints that while his time in Brawley has been served, it may not be the end of his political career.
“Some would consider this the end of my political career, but I would like to consider this as possibly the beginning.” said Vasquez at his final council meeting.
Benson leaves the council having served two separate 3 term stints, one in the 70s and one served in the 21st century.
Time for the changeover ceremony will be 7 pm at the Elks Lodge.
